Garden Lighting in Battle
TN33
Battle sits far enough inland for salt to stop being the governing factor, which opens up the design. Plots are larger, trees are older, and driveways are long enough to be a lighting project in their own right.
This is the part of the area where tree uplighting really earns its place — a single mature oak or beech lit properly does more for a garden than a dozen path lights.
What Battle gardens need
Mature trees
Uplighting a mature canopy needs the right beam angle and enough distance from the trunk. We use adjustable brass uplights on stakes or in ground sleeves so aim can be corrected as the tree grows.
Long driveways and approaches
The approach is what a visitor sees first. Low-level markers at wide spacing, plus light on the gate piers and the front door, read far better than a floodlight over the garage.
Period properties
Battle has a lot of listed and historic fabric. Same rule as the coast: we check the consent position with Rother District Council before quoting.
Battle questions
- Do you work in Battle?
- Yes, TN33, including the High Street, Netherfield, Catsfield and the surrounding lanes.
- Does an inland garden still need marine-grade fittings?
- Corrosion is much less aggressive in Battle than on the seafront, but we still fit brass and 316 stainless. They are what makes the ten-year corrosion guarantee possible, and they age better than the alternatives everywhere.
- How much does it cost to light a mature tree?
- It depends on the size of the canopy and how many fittings are needed to light it evenly — a small ornamental tree may need one, a mature oak three or four. We publish guide price ranges on the pricing table and quote a fixed price after seeing the garden.
